Description

A quick and easy recipe for perfectly crispy and melty grilled cheese sandwiches made in the air fryer. Ideal for a fast lunch or snack with minimal prep and clean-up.

Bread and Cheese

  • 8 slices bread
  • 8 slices cheese (or roughly ½ cup shredded cheese per sandwich)

Butter and Seasoning

  • 4 tablespoon butter (softened, at room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees Fahrenheit (188 degrees Celsius). If you have a convection style air fryer, select 'AIR FRY' mode and set the timer for 8 minutes to ensure it's hot and ready for cooking.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Butter one side of each bread slice generously with the softened butter. For convection style air fryers, place half of the buttered bread slices into the air fryer racks with the buttered side facing down.
  3. Add Cheese: Place your cheese slices or shredded cheese evenly on top of the buttered bread in the air fryer. Trim any excess cheese from the edges if you prefer a neater sandwich.
  4. Assemble Sandwich: Top the cheese with the remaining buttered bread slices, buttered side facing up. Sprinkle garlic salt evenly on top for added flavor.
  5. Cook the Sandwiches: For convection air fryers, add the racks with sandwiches when the air fryer indicates 'ADD FOOD'. When prompted to 'TURN FOOD', flip each sandwich and swap rack positions to ensure even cooking. For basket style air fryers, place the basket with sandwiches inside and cook for 5 minutes. After that, flip the sandwiches and cook for an additional 3 minutes until golden and melted.

Notes

  • Preheating the air fryer is very important to achieve the best crispy results, so do not skip this step.
  • Air fryer models vary, so watch your sandwiches closely toward the end of cooking to avoid burning or undercooking; you may need to add or reduce a minute accordingly.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket or racks. Leave enough space for air to circulate freely around the sandwiches to get them evenly toasted and melted.
