Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Drumsticks
- 4 pounds chicken drumsticks, about 12
Seasoning Mix
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
Sauce
- 2 cups sugar-free BBQ sauce or low sugar BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Season the Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine chicken drumsticks with garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground ginger, salt, and pepper. Use your clean hands to generously rub the seasoning all over the drumsticks to ensure even coating.
- Marinate: Refrigerate the seasoned chicken for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat thoroughly.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a roasting tin with aluminum foil for easier cleanup if you prefer.
- Arrange Drumsticks: Transfer the drumsticks onto a wire rack placed inside the roasting tin. Make sure to leave some space between each drumstick for even cooking.
- Bake the Drumsticks: Place the roasting tin in the middle of the oven and bake the chicken for 50 minutes, flipping the drumsticks halfway through the cooking time for even browning.
- Apply BBQ Sauce: Remove the drumsticks from the oven and brush each piece generously with the sugar-free BBQ sauce. Return them to the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
- Flip and Sauce Again: Flip the drumsticks, brush with BBQ sauce again, and bake for an additional 15 minutes to let the sauce caramelize beautifully.
- Serve: Remove from the oven once cooked through and nicely glazed. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your flavorful BBQ chicken drumsticks!
Notes
- Serving size is 2 drumsticks per person.
- Oven temperatures vary; if drumsticks are not fully cooked after the recommended time, continue baking up to an additional 20 minutes or increase the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for faster cooking.
- You can substitute chicken drumsticks with chicken breasts or thighs depending on your preference.
- Use any of your favorite healthy BBQ sauces for variation in flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and reheat in the microwave before serving.
- For longer storage, freeze cooked drumsticks in ziplock bags for up to 3 months.
