Description

These festive Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats are a fun and easy holiday dessert. Crispy rice cereal is coated in a smooth marshmallow mixture tinted green, then cut into tree shapes decorated with pretzel sticks as trunks and adorned with white chocolate and colorful sprinkles for a delightful seasonal treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 16 ounce marshmallows (1 bag)
  • 3 drops green gel food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 ½ cups rice krispies cereal

Decorations

  • 12 pretzel sticks
  • Christmas sprinkles
  • 4 ounce white chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper and set aside for the treats.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large pot over low heat, melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and smooth.
  3. Add color and flavor: Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the green gel food coloring and vanilla extract until evenly combined.
  4. Mix in cereal: Fold the rice krispies cereal into the marshmallow mixture until all the cereal is completely coated.
  5. Press the mixture into the pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and gently press it down evenly without packing it too firmly to keep the treats soft.
  6. Let set: Allow the treats to set at room temperature for at least one hour to firm up.
  7. Cut into tree shapes: Slice the set treats horizontally in half, then cut into triangles to resemble Christmas trees.
  8. Decorate: Melt the white chocolate following package directions. Insert one pretzel stick into the base of each triangle to act as the tree trunk. Pipe melted white chocolate onto each tree and add Christmas sprinkles for decorations.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Let the chocolate set before serving your festive Rice Krispie Christmas Trees.

Notes

  • Use fresh marshmallows and rice krispies cereal for the best flavor and texture; stale ingredients can result in stale treats.
  • Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to keep them fresh.
  • Press the mixture gently into the pan rather than packing it tightly to maintain a soft and chewy texture.
