Avocado Fries

  • 1 large avocado (ripe but slightly firm)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (more as needed)
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons plain unsweetened non-dairy milk
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Oil spray

  • Chipotle mayo (store-bought or homemade vegan chipotle mayo)


Instructions

  1. Cut avocado: Cut the avocado in half, remove the peel and pit, then slice each half into ¼-inch thick slices carefully to keep them intact for frying.
  2. Prep coatings: In a small shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Pour the non-dairy milk into a second bowl. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  3. Coat avocado: Working with one avocado slice at a time, first coat it evenly with the flour mixture. Then dip the floured avocado slice into the non-dairy milk. Finally, coat it well with the panko breadcrumbs on both sides. Repeat for all slices, arranging them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  4. Shray and bake: Lightly spray the coated avocado slices with oil spray. Place in the air fryer basket (no preheating required) and cook at 400°F for 12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Season with additional salt and pepper immediately after cooking.
  5. Serve: Serve hot avocado fries with chipotle mayo for dipping. Enjoy immediately for best crispiness.

  • Keep one hand dry and one hand wet when coating avocado slices to make dredging easier and less messy.
