Description

Dirty Snowman is a decadent adult hot chocolate recipe featuring a creamy scoop of vanilla ice cream, luscious chocolate liqueurs, and rich hot chocolate, all garnished with chocolate syrup and sprinkles for a festive treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Glass Rim

  • 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles

Drink

  • ½ cup vanilla ice cream (1 scoop)
  • ¼ cup Kahlua
  • 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur
  • 1 cup hot chocolate
  • Whipped cream

Garnish (optional)

  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Coarse sanding sugar
  • Additional chocolate syrup
  • Additional chocolate sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Glass Rim: Place the chocolate syrup onto a small plate. Turn the glass upside down and dip the rim into the chocolate syrup to coat it.
  2. Coat Rim with Sprinkles: Dip the syrup-coated rim into a shallow tray of chocolate sprinkles until the rim is evenly coated.
  3. Add Ice Cream: Place one scoop (½ cup) of vanilla ice cream into the prepared glass or mug.
  4. Add Liquors: Pour ¼ cup of Kahlua and 1 tablespoon of dark creme de cacao liqueur over the ice cream in the glass.
  5. Pour Hot Chocolate: Carefully pour 1 cup of hot chocolate over the ice cream and liqueurs.
  6. Top with Garnishes: Add a generous dollop of whipped cream on top, then garnish with mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, additional chocolate syrup, and chocolate sprinkles as desired.

Notes

  • Prepare the drink just before serving to maintain the ice cream texture and presentation.
  • You can double or triple the hot chocolate and liquor amounts when making multiple servings, but pour over ice cream individually at serving time.
  • Feel free to experiment with other liquors such as rum, coconut rum, Bailey’s, or chocolate vodka to customize the flavor.
  • For a twist, substitute chocolate ice cream or a combination of ice cream flavors.
  • This is a rich and indulgent drink; the balance between liquor and chocolate is mild but can be adjusted to be stronger if desired.
  • Use a high-quality hot chocolate for the best flavor, such as the homemade recipe suggested on Hershey’s cocoa powder packaging.
