Ingredients
Scale
Truffles
- 36 regular Oreos
- ½ cup whipped cream cheese spread
Coating and Decoration
- 12 ounces vanilla almond bark (½ of a 24-ounce package)
- Green gel food coloring (amount as desired)
- 18 red heart sprinkles
Instructions
- Crush Oreos: Place the Oreos in a food processor or blender and crush completely into fine crumbs, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Mix with Cream Cheese: Pour the Oreo crumbs into a large mixing bowl and stir in the whipped cream cheese spread until a thick mixture forms. Using clean hands to combine will make this easier.
- Form Balls: Scoop the mixture into 1 ½ tablespoon-sized balls using a cookie scoop and roll them smooth with your hands.
- Chill Balls: Place the rolled balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour until firm.
- Melt Almond Bark: Place the vanilla almond bark in a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1 minute, then stir well. Continue microwaving in 15 to 30 second increments, stirring between each, until fully melted, about 2 minutes total. Be careful not to let the almond bark seize up.
- Add Color: Stir in green gel food coloring a little at a time until you achieve the desired shade. Do not use liquid food coloring to avoid seizing.
- Dip Truffles: Dip each chilled truffle ball into the melted green almond bark until fully coated, allowing excess coating to drip off, then place back on the parchment paper.
- Add Sprinkles: While the coating is still soft, place one red heart sprinkle on top of each truffle.
- Final Chill: Return the coated truffles to the refrigerator for an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour until the coating is hardened.
- Serve: Serve the Grinch Christmas Truffles cold or at room temperature.
Notes
- Store truffles covered in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Freeze well-wrapped truffles in a freezer-safe container or bag for 3 to 4 months.
- You can substitute any favorite Oreo cookies instead of regular ones.
- Regular cream cheese can be used if softened to room temperature; you may need slightly less than ½ cup.
- Any heart-shaped candy or holiday sprinkles can be used for decoration or leave plain if preferred.
- Using your hands to mix the Oreo crumbs and cream cheese spread is easier than using a spoon.
- Avoid liquid food coloring as it will cause the almond bark to seize and ruin the coating.
