Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup flour
Sauce and Butter
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)
Garnish (optional)
- Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl until combined and set aside.
- Pound the Chicken: Use a meat mallet to pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of 1/2 inch to ensure even cooking.
- Season and Flour the Chicken: Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then dredge each piece in flour, shaking off excess.
- Sear the Chicken: In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add the chicken breasts and sear on one side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip the Chicken: Turn the chicken breasts and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes to form a golden crust.
- Sauté Garlic: Lower the heat to medium, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter to the skillet, then add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add Sauce and Simmer: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens and the chicken is fully cooked, reaching an internal temperature of 165ºF.
- Make it Saucier (Optional): If a saucier consistency is desired, add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the skillet and stir to combine, letting the sauce simmer further.
- Coat and Garnish: Turn the chicken to coat both sides evenly in the sauce. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions if desired.
- Serve and Enjoy: Plate the honey garlic butter chicken and serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use smaller chicken breasts (5-8 oz.) or halve larger breasts lengthwise for thinner cutlets to ensure even cooking.
- Add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the sauce for a saucier texture if preferred.
- Sprinkle red pepper flakes for a touch of heat.
- Add a squeeze of lime or lemon juice to brighten up the flavor.
- Be careful not to burn the garlic when sautéing; cook until fragrant only.
