Ingredients
Scale
Cream Cheese Glaze
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- ½ cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Red Velvet Waffles
- 2 cups Bisquick mix
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup whole milk
- 30 drops red gel food coloring
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Make the cream cheese glaze: Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until soft and smooth. Add powdered sugar, then beat until light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl to ensure a lump-free glaze.
- Add milk and vanilla to glaze: Mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract, then set the cream cheese glaze aside.
- Preheat waffle iron: Heat your waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions.
- Mix dry ingredients for waffles: In a medium bowl, whisk together Bisquick mix, brown sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Combine wet ingredients with dry: Add buttermilk, whole milk, red gel food coloring, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Whisk until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Cook waffles: Pour about ¾ cup of batter onto the preheated waffle iron and close the lid. Cook for about 5 minutes or until waffles are soft inside, slightly crispy outside, and easily pull away without sticking. Adjust amount and time based on your waffle iron’s instructions.
- Serve: Drizzle cream cheese glaze over warm waffles and enjoy immediately. Repeat with remaining batter.
Notes
- Adjust milk quantity in the cream cheese glaze to control thickness—use more milk for a thinner glaze and less for a thicker frosting-like consistency.
- Substitute buttermilk by mixing 1 tablespoon white vinegar into 1 cup milk and letting it curdle for 5-10 minutes.
- Omit brown sugar in waffle batter to reduce sweetness if preferred, as the glaze is already quite sweet.
