Description

A festive and crunchy Christmas treat combining white chocolate-covered popcorn, pretzels, and colorful M&Ms, topped with holiday sprinkles. Easy to make and perfect for gift giving or holiday snacking.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn Mix

  • 1/2 cup (104g) popcorn kernels
  • 1 1/2 cups (75g) broken pretzel pieces or baby pretzels
  • 1 (10 oz) bag green and red Milk Chocolate or Mint M&Ms
  • Christmas sprinkles (quantity as desired)

Coating

  • 1 (12 oz) bag Vanilla Candy Melts

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn: Use a popcorn popper to pop the 1/2 cup popcorn kernels into a large bowl according to the manufacturer's directions. Alternatively, microwave bags of popcorn can be used. Remove any unpopped kernels.
  2. Combine ingredients: Toss the popped popcorn with the broken pretzel pieces and M&Ms in the large bowl until evenly mixed.
  3. Melt the candy melts: Place Vanilla Candy Melts in a microwave-safe bowl and melt on 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth and fully melted.
  4. Coat the mixture: Drizzle half of the melted candy melts over the popcorn mixture and gently toss with a rubber spatula to coat. Then drizzle the remaining melted candy melts over the mixture and stir gently until evenly coated, being careful not to over-stir as it can prevent the sprinkles from sticking.
  5. Spread and decorate: Pour the coated mixture in a single layer onto wax paper. Sprinkle with Christmas sprinkles evenly before the white chocolate sets.
  6. Set and serve: Allow the mixture to cool and harden completely, then break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels yields about 16 to 17 cups popped popcorn.
  • If no popcorn popper is available, use microwave popcorn bags or a brown paper bag method to pop the kernels.
  • The 10 oz bag of M&Ms works well though older recipes called for 12 oz; you can add 2 extra ounces from another bag if desired.
  • To keep M&Ms and pretzels more visible, set aside 1/4 of them before coating and sprinkle over the top along with sprinkles.
  • This recipe fills about 8 to 9 party treat bags each measuring 1/2 inch by 4 inches, useful for gift ideas.
